Tuesdays' Tip

Today's tip is: Plan ahead.

Being homeschoolers, we are home A LOT. I love being at home, so that is not a big deal for us. But even though we are home a lot, you would be surprised at how often I am surprised by everyone's need to eat! I try to plan ahead for such events.

I usually set a day aside every so often to fill our freezer with individual servings sizes of things we like to eat. I make chili, tomato sauce, muffins, soups, even potstickers. I brown ground meat and put it in a freezer bag. Then I can throw together something fast if I need to. I freeze most foods in separate portions that are then available whenever we get hungry. Usually it is for lunch, but sometimes it turns out to be dinner!

It works well for us and keeps us from grabbing something we shouldn't eat at a fast food place.

That's a great idea. I am regreting that when we bought 1/2 a cow from a farm last year, I didn't break the ground beef packages into smaller packages. So now I have to take 1 package about 2lbs. each time I need to use it. Use what I need for dinner and had to find some other stuff to make with it.

I am such a fan of the make-ahead in single servings plan. I do it all the time to accommodate my 1 person household. Never thought about the ground beef thing, but that's pretty genius.
